About Us

The Pavilion Playgroup was founded in 1978, and is a self supporting group run by a committee of parents and trustees. We are a registered charity committed to the provision of pre-school activities for about 60 three to four year old children, spread over 10 sessions each week. Pavilion is accredited by the Preschool Learning Alliance, an Investors in Children Quality Assurance Scheme.

  • The aims of the playgroup are to help children develop, discover and learn through play activities. We work hard to provide a happy, secure, non-judgmental environment in which the children can learn.
  • A stimulating range of activities relevant to a child's needs and stage of development offering children the opportunity to learn through play.
  • We give the children the opportunity to make choices, explore, experiment and discover at their own pace.
  • We provide the opportunity for a child to gain confidence in their own ability by helping them with new skills, for example, cutting and pencil control, and by rewarding their effort and not the finished product.

The experience of play at playgroup enables a child to mix with other children, learn how to make friends, and observe how other children react and behave. We strive to stimulate each child to learn language and develop communication skills through story telling and sing-along.

Play is pressure free and allows children to take risks. Success or failure is NOT important.
